Universal Key

Universal Key is a single, secure credential that lets your Emergent app use multiple large language models, including GPT, Claude, and Gemini, without creating separate accounts or managing an API key for each one. All usage is billed through your Emergent credits.

Set it once and your build can use any model from the start.

How Universal Key works

Instead of signing up with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google separately and wiring in three API keys, you use one key that Emergent manages, with a single credential and unified billing. You choose which models your app can use by toggling providers (GPT, Claude, Gemini) on or off, and all of them run through that one key. You can manage it from Profile → Universal Key, or just ask your agent to "use my Universal Key for this project" and it configures everything. It supports both text and multimodal (image and vision) workflows with no extra setup.

Example

Take a recipe blog app that makes several AI calls: it sends an uploaded ingredients photo to GPT's vision model to identify what's in it, and generates header images for each recipe. Normally that would mean separate provider accounts, keys, and bills. With Universal Key, every one of those calls runs through a single credential with unified billing, so you never manage more than one key.
