Claude Haiku 5.5 Release Date: What Anthropic Has Confirmed

Anthropic has confirmed Claude Haiku 5.5, but it has not given a Haiku 5.5 release date. The company has said twice, in two separate launch posts, that the model will arrive in the coming weeks. Nothing more specific exists in any Anthropic document as of October 5, 2026.
That leaves anyone running a fast, high-volume Claude workload in an awkward spot. You know a cheaper, newer tier is coming, and you have no date to plan around.
The official docs still answer the practical questions. They show which date to ignore and what happens to Haiku 4.5 workloads in the meantime.
Haiku 5.5 release date: confirmed model, no confirmed day
The short answer is that no Haiku 5.5 release date exists yet. Anthropic named the model on September 22, 2026, during the Opus 5.5 launch, saying Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 "will follow in the coming weeks."
Sonnet 5.5 kept that promise six days later. Haiku 5.5 has not followed yet. As of today, 13 days have passed since that first coming-weeks line, and the official model list still shows Haiku 4.5 as the newest Haiku.
We tracked the same pattern for Sonnet. Our Sonnet 5.5 coverage logged a confirmed name and an open date right up until launch day. Haiku 5.5 is in that same holding position now.
What Anthropic has said about Haiku 5.5
Only two sentences about Haiku 5.5 exist in Anthropic's announcements, and together they confirm its role and rough timing. Neither includes a date, a price, or a specification.
The first came in the Opus 5.5 announcement. It said the two smaller models would carry many of the same performance, efficiency, and safety improvements as Opus 5.5.
The second came on September 28 in the Sonnet 5.5 announcement. It described Haiku 5.5 as "built for high-volume and cost-sensitive applications" and repeated that it would join the family in the coming weeks.
That role line is the most useful clue. It tells you Anthropic is keeping Haiku in the job it already does: the cheap, fast model that handles large volumes of simple calls.
Worth knowing: There is no Claude Haiku 5. The Claude 5 generation shipped Opus 5 and Sonnet 5 but no Haiku, so the line jumps straight from Haiku 4.5 to Haiku 5.5. The official model status table lists no claude-haiku-5 entry.
Where Haiku 5.5 fits in the Claude 5.5 rollout
Haiku 5.5 is the last unreleased model in the Claude 5.5 family. Opus shipped first, Sonnet second, and Haiku is still pending.
The last generation offers a useful reference point, though not a forecast. In the 4.5 generation, Haiku 4.5 arrived 16 days after Sonnet 4.5. This time the order has changed, with Opus going first, so the old gap does not carry over cleanly.
If you want the detail on the two released models, our Sonnet 5.5 vs Opus 5.5 comparison covers how they differ in practice.
Why October 15 is not the Haiku 5.5 release date
October 15, 2026 is Haiku 4.5's earliest possible retirement date, and it says nothing about when Haiku 5.5 launches. Anthropic's model deprecations page lists Haiku 4.5's tentative retirement as "not sooner than October 15, 2026." That is a floor, set one year after its launch.
The date has started circulating online as a likely Haiku 5.5 launch day. No Anthropic source connects the two.
The same page also rules out any sudden shutdown. Under Anthropic's policy, every publicly released model gets at least 60 days' notice before retirement. Haiku 4.5 is still marked Active, with no deprecation notice, so it cannot be switched off on October 15.
Sonnet 4.5 shows how this usually plays out. Anthropic deprecated Sonnet 4.5 on September 30, 2026, named Sonnet 5.5 as the replacement, and set retirement for November 30. That is roughly two months of runway after the successor shipped.
Haiku 5.5 pricing, context window, and benchmarks are still unpublished
No Haiku 5.5 pricing, specs, or benchmark scores have been released. Any number you see for those today is a guess, not a published figure.
The 5.5 family gives mixed signals on price. Opus 5.5 cut list prices by 20% compared with Opus 5. Sonnet 5.5 kept Sonnet 5's prices but uses fewer tokens per task, which our Sonnet 5.5 pricing breakdown explains. Haiku 5.5 could follow either path, and Anthropic has not said which.
Context window is the other open question. Both released 5.5 models support 1M tokens, while Haiku 4.5 tops out at 200K. Whether Haiku 5.5 closes that gap is unconfirmed.
Until Anthropic publishes figures, budget against Haiku 4.5's real rates. They are $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens. For a sense of what the bigger tiers cost per task, see our Opus 5.5 pricing guide and the Sonnet 5.5 benchmarks.
How to tell when Haiku 5.5 actually ships
The launch will be obvious in Anthropic's own documentation before anywhere else. Social posts and third-party trackers can lag or guess, so these primary signals are the ones to watch:
- A launch post: an "Introducing Claude Haiku 5.5" page on Anthropic's newsroom, like the ones for Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5.
- A new model ID: a Haiku 5.5 entry beside Haiku 4.5 in the models overview.
- A price row: published input, output, and cache rates for Haiku 5.5.
- A deprecation notice for Haiku 4.5: most likely naming Haiku 5.5 as its replacement, as happened with Sonnet 4.5.
If you build with Claude through a platform rather than directly, availability there may come later than Anthropic's own launch. Check that platform's release notes before you plan a switch.
Build on the Claude models available today
Waiting on Haiku 5.5 should not stall what you are building. The Haiku 5.5 release date is still open, but Haiku 4.5, Sonnet 5.5, and Opus 5.5 are all live, and they cover nearly every job a new Haiku would take on.
On Emergent, you can add Claude to your app through the Universal Key, one credential that also covers GPT and Gemini and bills against your Emergent Credits. Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 are already available, as our Opus 5.5 on Emergent update explains. Describe what your app should do, and the agent handles the wiring.
