GLM 5.5 Release Date: Where Things Stand and What Z.ai Shipped Instead

The GLM 5.5 release date remains unannounced as of October 16, 2026. Z.ai's official release log ends at GLM-5.3-Flash, which shipped on August 26.

Z.ai's current flagship is GLM-5.3, a coding-focused update released on August 18. An analyst forecast earlier this year had pointed to GLM 5.5 for August, but Z.ai never confirmed it.

The company's release rhythm suggests its next model is close. Z.ai has shipped a new flagship every 54 to 70 days this year, which points to a window between October 11 and October 27. Z.ai has not said what that model will be called.

Is GLM 5.5 out? The status as of October 16, 2026

No. GLM 5.5 is not out, and Z.ai has not announced it. The newest entry in Z.ai's release notes is GLM-5.3-Flash, dated August 26, 2026. No page in Z.ai's developer docs names GLM 5.5, and no API model ID or price for it exists.

The weights trail tells the same story. The zai-org Hugging Face organization, where Z.ai publishes its open weights, lists GLM-5.3 and GLM-5.3-Flash as its newest models. There is no GLM 5.5 repository.

Pages that list GLM 5.5 pricing, benchmark scores, or a model string are describing a model Z.ai has not documented. Treat those numbers as placeholders until Z.ai publishes its own.

The latest GLM releases from Z.ai

Z.ai's newest models are GLM-5.3 and GLM-5.3-Flash, a lighter variant that followed eight days later. Both are open-weight and available today. Here is the full GLM-5 line, taken from Z.ai's own release log.

Release date Model What Z.ai highlighted
August 26, 2026 GLM-5.3-Flash Native visual input; hybrid architecture with 320B total and 18B active parameters
August 18, 2026 GLM-5.3 50% gain over GLM-5.2 on Z.ai Code Bench; vulnerability discovery work
June 16, 2026 GLM-5.2 1M-token lossless context; long-horizon coding tasks
April 7, 2026 GLM-5.1 Runs independently for up to 8 hours on a single task
February 12, 2026 GLM-5 Shift from coding to systems engineering and long-range agent tasks

One date discrepancy is worth knowing. Several third-party trackers list GLM-5.3 as launching on August 14. Z.ai's release log dates it August 18, and that is the date used here.

The benchmark gains above are vendor-reported. For a closer look at how the current model performs, see our GLM-5.3 benchmarks breakdown.

When could the next GLM model arrive?

If Z.ai keeps its 2026 rhythm, its next major model is due between October 11 and October 27, 2026. That window comes from simple arithmetic on Z.ai's own release dates, not from any statement by the company.

From To Gap
GLM-5 (February 12) GLM-5.1 (April 7) 54 days
GLM-5.1 (April 7) GLM-5.2 (June 16) 70 days
GLM-5.2 (June 16) GLM-5.3 (August 18) 63 days

Days between GLM-5 series flagship releases in 2026, based on Z.ai's release notes.

Adding 54 to 70 days to August 18 gives October 11 to October 27. Today is day 59 since GLM-5.3, so a release at any point in the next two weeks would fit the pattern. So would a slip into November; three gaps are a short track record.

The name is a separate question. Z.ai has moved in 0.1 steps all year, from GLM-5 through GLM-5.3. A jump straight to GLM 5.5 would break that habit, and Z.ai has said nothing about what it will call its next release. Expect the next model; don't assume its label.

What is actually known about GLM 5.5 specs

Nothing about GLM 5.5's specs is confirmed. Z.ai has published no parameter count, context window, license, benchmark, or price for a model by that name.

The figures you see elsewhere (a trillion-plus parameters, a 1M-token window, open weights) are extrapolations. Some trace back to an analyst note that was never made public. Others assume the next model will copy GLM-5.2's 1M context and GLM-5.3's open-weight release. Those are reasonable guesses about direction, but they are guesses.

The current line does give a fair baseline for any successor:

  • Context: GLM-5.2 already supports 1M tokens, so a smaller window would be a step backward.
  • Size: GLM-5.3 is listed at roughly 753B parameters on Hugging Face, and GLM-5.3-Flash at 320B total.
  • Focus: Every 2026 release has pushed long-horizon coding and agent work, which makes that the safest bet for the next one.

Until Z.ai ships a model card, any spec sheet for GLM 5.5 is a forecast with formatting.

How to tell when GLM 5.5 actually launches

A real Z.ai launch usually leaves the same trail within days, and you can check each piece yourself. Watch these places, in roughly the order they tend to update:

  1. Z.ai release notes: a new dated entry on the developer docs release page naming the model.
  2. Hugging Face: a new model repository under the zai-org organization, with a model card and license file.
  3. API docs: a guide page and an exact model ID in Z.ai's developer documentation.
  4. Pricing: a per-token price row on Z.ai's pricing page.
  5. Independent evaluation: a model page on Artificial Analysis, which typically scores major releases soon after API access opens.

If a page claims GLM 5.5 is live but none of these exist, the claim is ahead of the facts. Social posts and "insider" timelines have predicted several dates since July. None of them has matched a Z.ai release note.

What to use while you wait for GLM 5.5

If you need a GLM model today, use GLM-5.3. It is Z.ai's current flagship, its weights are public, and it carries the coding gains Z.ai shipped in August. GLM-5.3-Flash is the lighter option when speed and cost matter more than peak capability.

Waiting rarely pays off with model releases. Z.ai has shipped roughly every two months this year, so whatever you build on GLM-5.3 now will likely have a successor to test soon after. Build on the model that exists, and swap when the next one proves itself.

For more on the current line, these guides cover it in depth:

The bottom line: plan around GLM-5.3 and watch Z.ai's release notes

The GLM 5.5 release date does not exist yet. Z.ai's latest models are GLM-5.3 and GLM-5.3-Flash, and the company has said nothing about the name or timing of its next release. Its 2026 cadence points to a release in late October, but only a Z.ai release note will settle it.

Until then, GLM-5.3 is the model to build on, and the five signals above will tell you within days when something new is real.

GLM models are not available on Emergent. Claude, GPT, and Gemini models are, through the Universal Key, including the recently added Claude Sonnet 5.5. Pick your model and describe what you want: a web app, a mobile app, a dashboard, or an AI agent.
