How a Non-Technical Founder Built a Home-Care Marketplace for €300 Instead of €5,000

A non-technical Italian founder used Emergent to build a two-sided home-care marketplace prototype for around €300, instead of an estimated €5,000.

In your own town, you can meet the caregiver in person and ask people you trust for a recommendation. Do it for a parent two regions south, where you can't drop by and you don't know the local names, and it collapses into phone calls, referrals from strangers, and guesswork about who is actually qualified and available. Sebastiano watched that problem up close in Italy. He isn't a developer and has never led a technical team. What he has is a habit of noticing everyday problems and asking whether technology could fix them.

The problem he kept circling was home care. Families across Italy need nurses, physiotherapists, caregivers, and OSS support workers, but finding the right person, checking their availability, and organizing help is slow and scattered. Sebastiano set out to build a single place where families could find verified local professionals and, eventually, book them directly. Using Emergent, he built the first version himself, without code and without hiring a developer. He called it ACCANTO.

Challenges

No developer, and a €5,000 estimate to get started

Sebastiano had the idea and the domain understanding. He didn't have a technical co-founder or a budget for one. He estimated that building a first version through a developer or an agency could cost around €5,000, a large bet to place before knowing whether the concept would hold up in the real world.

That price tag blocked him from even testing whether the idea worked. Hiring meant finding a developer, explaining a concept he understood better than anyone else could, and then waiting through a process he had no way to steer. For a project still at the idea stage, that was a lot to commit before seeing anything work.

Solution

A two-sided home-care marketplace, designed in natural language

Sebastiano used Emergent to build the front end of ACCANTO by describing what he wanted in plain language and refining the result as he went. Instead of writing code or briefing a developer, he could explain an idea, see it built, spot what he wanted to change, and keep iterating himself.

The prototype lays out the core of a two-sided home-care marketplace:

  • Professional categories built for the Italian market: Families can filter by role, including OSS, nurse, physiotherapist, caretaker, health OSS, and speech therapist.
  • A verification-first pitch: The interface centers on verified, vetted professionals, user reviews, and availability, the trust signals families care about most when inviting someone into a relative's home.
  • Separate sign-up for families and professionals: The registration flow splits into two paths, one for people looking for assistance and one for professionals offering services, the structure a marketplace needs to grow both sides.

For Sebastiano, the unlock was participation. He wasn't handing his idea to someone else and hoping it came back right. He was in the build itself, shaping each screen directly, which for a non-technical founder was a different experience from traditional development.

Roughly €300 to reach a front-end prototype

Sebastiano has put about €300 into Emergent so far, against the €5,000 he estimated a traditional build would have cost. More than the money, he points to time. Rather than spending weeks finding a developer and managing a process he didn't fully understand, he could start building and testing immediately.

The shift he describes is in how he approaches ideas at all. Before, the thought was: I have an idea, but I need a developer to make it real. Now it's: I have an idea, so let's build a first version and see if it works.

Conclusion

Sebastiano set out to make home care easier to arrange for Italian families, and without writing code or hiring a developer, he turned that idea into a front-end prototype of a two-sided marketplace for around €300. His next step is to get ACCANTO in front of real families and professionals in Calabria's Locride area, then expand from there. The build isn't the finish line. It's the thing that finally let him test the idea in the real world instead of guessing at it.

If you have an idea and no technical team, Sebastiano's starting point is probably yours too: the cost and the wait of traditional development standing between you and a first version. Emergent removes both. You describe what you want, watch it take shape, and change it yourself until it's right, in days rather than months and for a fraction of the usual cost.
