How a Project Manager With Zero Coding Experience Built and Launched Sarathi-X, a Safety-First EV Ride Service

Vishal Rao is a project manager at a marketing agency in Bangalore. His day job has nothing to do with software. He describes himself plainly: a non-technical founder with zero coding experience.

That did not stop him and his wife, who is also his co-founder, from taking on one of the harder problems in Indian urban mobility. They set out to build Sarathi-X, a premium electric-vehicle ride service rooted in safety and reliability, and Vishal built its booking platform himself on Emergent.

The idea came from Vishal and his co-founder's own experiences as passengers. On more than one ride, the car was in poor condition and the driver made them uncomfortable. Vishal cannot write code. Building the platform the traditional way meant hiring developers or interns and managing a technical build he had no way to evaluate. What he built: a booking platform around safety

How he built it without writing code

Vishal found Emergent through a plain Google search for building software without learning to code. He did not even know the term for it yet. He tried one other platform, Lovable, but stayed with Emergent, and the reason was how the build actually went.

What he valued most was simplicity. He could put an idea across in plain language, talk through the best approach with the AI, and get there without burning mental energy he needed for the rest of the business. A live EV ride service on the road in about three months

Vishal and his co-founder decided to tackle the ride problem roughly three months before Sarathi-X went live on June 18, 2026. In that window, a founder who cannot write a line of code took the service from an idea to a real product on the road, with a working booking platform behind a branded vehicle that riders now book and travel in. He built it in the hours he could carve out around a full-time job that runs from 1:30 in the afternoon to 10:30 at night.

A safety-engineered service, not a prototype

Sarathi-X pairs an owned MG Windsor EV with Cautio's AI safety monitoring and a fixed-fare, WhatsApp-based booking flow that confirms rides and shares driver details within half an hour. Vishal started deliberately small, with one car and a handful of rides a day, and drove the first two weeks himself so he could talk to riders and train drivers before scaling. It is the kind of controlled, safety-first launch that usually requires a full product team, run instead by one non-technical founder and the platform he built on.

Conclusion
