For a lifter, every session builds on the weights and reps from the previous one. A fitness enthusiast lifted weights regularly and kept those numbers in his head and in scattered notes. He wrote his own workout plans, timed rests by feel, and had no clear idea what to eat for his goal. Today he runs a small subscription business that sells to lifters who train the way he did.

Keeping lifts, plans, rest, and nutrition across separate notes and apps never held together for long. Using Emergent's workout tracker builder, he built a web app that brings workout logging, AI-generated workouts, personal records, a rest timer, and a macro calculator into one place. He then shipped it as a paid annual subscription with a 7-day free trial. It went from a plain-English description to a live, deployed product.

Challenges

Each new workout plan started from a blank page

A plan needed a goal, a split, exercises, sets, and a session length. Writing one by hand took time, so many lifters repeated the same routine for months. Ready-made splits like Push/Pull/Legs existed, but they still had to be found and set up. Most were also written for a full gym, which did not help a lifter training with only some of the equipment.

Rest times and nutrition sat outside the workout log

Rest between sets was timed by feel or with a separate phone timer, so rest periods drifted from one set to the next. Daily calorie and macro targets lived in another app, if they were worked out at all. With logging, timing, and nutrition in three places, lifters kept up with none of them for long.

Lifters wanted to try the app before paying for a year

The app sells on one annual plan. Asking a lifter to pay for a full year before they had logged a single workout was a big ask. They needed a way to try it first, and to know exactly when the first charge would come. Payment also had to work for buyers outside the US, in their own currency.

Solution

AI-generated workouts and ready-made programs

The AI workout generator builds a session from a goal, a focus area, and a session length, based on the lifter's equipment and fitness level. Lifters can save a workout, change it, or generate a new one.

For lifters who want a set plan, the app also includes ready-made programs:

  • Push/Pull/Legs
  • Full Body
  • Hypertrophy-focused programs

Logging, rest timing, and nutrition in one place

The app logs every set with reps, weight, and rest time, and keeps each session in one history. A built-in timer runs the rest period between sets, so timing no longer needs a second app.

  • Personal records are picked out automatically, and charts show volume, frequency, and strength trends.
  • A calendar view marks every completed session.
  • The macro calculator works out daily calories and macros for the lifter's goal, and saves each calculation so changes in nutrition can be tracked over time.

A free trial that leads straight to checkout

A single sales page sets out the problems the app solves, the features, and one annual plan with everything included. A free-trial button sits in the header, the hero, the pricing card, and the closing section.

From that page, a buyer reaches checkout in three screens:

  • Create an account.
  • Confirm the annual plan, with a clear note that nothing is charged today.
  • Pay through a hosted checkout that takes cards, Apple Pay, and Link, and shows the price in the buyer's own currency.

The checkout also states the date the first annual charge will apply, so the buyer knows when the trial ends.

Conclusion

A lifter who has lived with these problems is the right person to design the app that fixes them. He knows that lifters write plans from scratch, guess at rest, and keep nutrition in a separate app. He described the product in plain English on Emergent. The finished app, sales page, AI workout generator, set and rep logging, personal record tracking, progress charts, workout calendar, rest timer, macro calculator, pre-built programs, user accounts, free-trial logic, and card checkout included, went live as a public, paid product.
