If you want an app but can't code, Appy Pie promises to build one from a sentence you type, and it recently added the behind-the-scenes data and server pieces too. 

This Appy Pie review tests the tool and digs through reviews on G2, Trustpilot, and a few other sites to see how it holds up once you push past that first AI-generated draft.

Across all three, Appy Pie has high marks for ease of use and support and lower marks for pricing transparency and customization.

What is Appy Pie?

Appy Pie started in 2016 as a plain drag-and-drop app builder. You pick a template, click your way through setup, and publish.

Then it added AI on top of that. You type what you want your app to do, and it generates a starting draft. From there, you polish it in a visual editor (or with AI), picking colors, dragging in features, and previewing it on a phone screen.

In January 2026, Appy Pie launched (in open beta) a full-stack version that also generates the logic, storage, and login your app needs behind the scenes, in addition to the interface.

Your app still lives on Appy Pie's own servers, though. You can't download the code, and there's no way to move your project to GitHub or hand it to a developer. If owning your code matters to you, that's not part of the deal.

Appy Pie also builds Progressive Web Apps (PWAs). Its PWA Builder packages the same app as an installable, browser-based version that works across Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Beyond the app builder, Appy Pie sells a website builder, a task automation tool called Appy Pie Automate, and a chatbot builder, all separate products under one company.

• AI App Generator: You type a description, like “a booking app for a hair salon,” and Appy Pie generates a first draft with screens, navigation, and a basic layout in place. It skips the blank-page problem of figuring out where to start.
• Edit With AI: Select any section and ask the AI to change it in plain language. “Make this page shorter.” “Simplify this text.” This is faster than digging through menus, though you're still working within the structure the AI already picked.
• Drag-and-Drop Editor: Adjust colors, fonts, and layouts by hand, drag in new sections, and preview everything on a phone screen before you publish. Easy to use even if you've never built anything before.
• Feature Library: Appy Pie cites more than 85 pre-built features you can drop into your app: push notifications, in-app stores, booking pages, and more. They're all pre-made blocks, so you're assembling your app from what Appy Pie already provides.
• Multiple Languages: Appy Pie translates content automatically and supports right-to-left languages like Arabic and Hebrew. Useful if you're serving customers across different markets.
• Analytics: Basic usage tracking comes built in. You can also connect Google Analytics for a deeper look at how people are using your app.

Appy Pie Pricing

Appy Pie prices by the app, not by the account. The number on the pricing page doesn't include add-ons, extra usage, or a second app. What you pay can run higher than the sticker price suggests.

A few things to know before you pick a plan:

• Per-App Billing: Every app needs its own subscription. Building more than one gets expensive fast.
• iOS is Locked Behind Platinum: The two cheaper plans only publish to Android. Platinum or Enterprise are your only options for an iPhone app.
• Store Fees are Separate: Apple charges its own $99-a-year developer fee, and Google charges a one-time $25 fee. Neither is included in Appy Pie's pricing.
• Free Trial, No Free Plan: You get seven days to test the builder, but you can't publish without upgrading to a paid plan.

Appy Pie's flat per-app pricing is easier to plan around than usage-based pricing. It stops making sense once you're running more than one or two apps at a time.

Cons

• Billing Complaints Show Up Often: Unexpected charges and refund trouble come up repeatedly on G2. One reviewer (“Verified User”) complained of still being billed after canceling.
• Templates Look Dated: Published apps tend to look similar to each other. The visual options don't stretch far past what's already there.
• Customization Hits a Wall Fast: eWeek says there's little you can do to customize the templates.

My Personal Take on Appy Pie

Building with Appy Pie is easy. I wrote a detailed prompt for a food delivery app, BulkyGulp, styled around a street food truck. The first draft was ready in 7 minutes.

It's a basic app, but a working one. A more complex version would eat more resources and take longer.

But if you need something decent live, Appy Pie gets you there.

Where it falls short is everything after that first draft. Rearranging sections outside what the template allows is hard, and the AI editing tool changes your wording but leaves the structure fixed.

Is Appy Pie Right for You?

Who will love it:

• Someone Who Needs One App, Fast: You'll build a simple loyalty program, basic store, or info app quickly without spending much.
• Business Owners Who Don't Care About a Custom Look: It's fine for your brand if a template-based design works for you.
• Schools and Nonprofits: Appy Pie offers discounted pricing for schools, universities, nonprofits, government bodies, and students with an .edu email address.

Who should avoid it:

• Founders Who Want a Brand-Specific App: If your app needs to look distinct rather than like a template with your logo on it, you'll be frustrated by the limited customization.
• Businesses Building More Than One App: Agencies, dev shops, and founders juggling multiple projects will feel per-app billing add up quickly.
• Founders Planning to Hand the Project Off Later: There's no code to export. You can't move the app to a developer or another platform down the line.
• Anyone Who's Been Burned by Surprise Billing Before: Given how often billing complaints show up in reviews, go in with your eyes open, or pick a platform with a cleaner track record.

My Final Verdict

Appy Pie builds templated apps quickly and cheaply. You'll like it if speed and budget are what you need.

The shortcomings surface once you go past that first version: the customization ceiling, the per-app billing, and having no code to hand off.

While Appy Pie is built for getting a basic app out the door, it's not suitable for growing, rebranding, or eventually passing it to a technical team.
