Standing up a database and writing your own queries is the price of ToolJet's flexibility here, a fair trade if someone on the team already does both. AppSheet's original promise, point at a spreadsheet and go, doesn't survive the move to ToolJet.

Every change becomes a traceable commit: Appsmith self-hosts the same way ToolJet does, and I connected it to a small database holding the same four tables. The drag-and-drop editor felt close to ToolJet's own. The Git integration sitting underneath it is what set the build apart.
Every change committed to a connected Git repository automatically, including the new Field Tech role and the overdue-flag query. I could see exactly what changed between the working build and the version before the Supervisor's overdue notification. Like ToolJet, I built this one by hand, so there's no prompt to quote.
Version history helped when the first overdue query flagged every checkout record. I rolled back to the last working commit in one click, then corrected the query. That's not something AppSheet, or most of the other tools tested here, gives you at all.
